ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON FILM APPRECIATION

International Film Fraternity of Oman (IFFO) conducts

single day Film Appreciation workshop on 6th nov 2009

at Sapphir Hall, Crytel suites, Wadi Kabir


Oscar winner Resul Pookutty will share his views on sound of cinema.
Dr. Jabbar patel will conduct classes and interactive sessions on essential aspects of effective films, the very phenomenon of cinema.

The Workshop will draw attention to some aspects of cinematic narration and muse en scene with representative examples from classic and contemporary films. The classical or 'analytic-dramatic' style will be contrasted with modernist strategies of storytelling developed in contemporary cinema. It will conclude with screening-cum-discussion on his documentaries. The course also screens and discusses about the classics and other significant films, which are the milestones in the history of World cinema.


The participants of this course are enlightened with the real need for Film Appreciation, which comprises of subjects such as:

History of Cinema,

Language and craft of Cinema,

Process of Film- making,

to give an insight into the medium, along with practical by showing different kinds and genres of cinema from all over the world. Knowing more about cinema from experts point of view will help the participant to change the approach and perception of looking at films from an altogether different angle. And the participants of this course vouch for this statement of ours.

Resul Pookutty (born 1971) is an Academy Award and BAFTA Award winning Indian film sound designer, sound editor and mixer. He won the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for the film Slumdog Millionaire. He has worked for Hollywood, Bollywood and Malayalam film industries.
He is a 1995 graduate from
Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He designed sound for the 2008 blockbuster Ghajini, starring Aamir Khan and directed by Murugadoss. His first major international project Slumdog Millionaire won him an Academy award. His work on the film also won him nation-wide acclaim.
2009 : Honorary Doctorate or D.Litt by Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady

Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing along with Ian Tapp and Richard Pryke for his work in Slumdog Millionaire.]

Jabbar Patel, Film Maker
Born in 1942 in Pandharpur in Maharashtra he was earlier a paediatrician. He founded the noted Marathi experimental theatre group, 'Theatre Academy', which stage Vijay Tendulkar's Ghashiram Kotwal in 1973, followed by, 'Teen Paishacha Tamasha', an adaptation of Brecht's Threepenny Opera in 1974.

Dr. Jabbar Patel A noted Theatre and Film personality. All his films received National and State awards and screened in many International Film Festivals. Directed his first film in Marathi –Samana in 1975 which was an Official Entry to the Berlin International Film Festival. Then he directed –Jait Re Jait a musical produced by the Mangeshkars in 1978.In 1979 came his popular film Simhasan a political satire. In 1981 he directed and produced Umbartha with Smita Patil and Girish Karnad which brought him further National Acclaim. In 1991 he directed Ek Hota Vidushak a musical comedy. In 1994 he directed Mukta which won the National Award for National Integration. He has also directed a film in Hindi- Musafir with Rekha and Naseeruddin Shah in the year 1986.'Dr.Babasaheb Ambedkar' a biographical film which he directed won a great acclaim for him. It was shown at the London Film festival and many other international film festivals.
